At the intersection of compassion, resourcefulness and generosity lies the answer to alleviating hunger among the unhoused of Los Angeles. Lov Kitchen envisions communities forged through relationships based on mutual aid and cooperation.
A hot meal can lead to a way out of homelessness by braiding together ancillary resources that help lift others out of difficult circumstances.
Why are we doing this?
The City of Los Angeles currently has 41,290 people experiencing homelessness. We see caring for the most vulnerable among us as The People’s Work and not something to outsource only to governmental agencies. We rescue food that would otherwise go to waste in order to alleviate the burden of hunger and uplift the most vulnerable among us by working in cooperation with other providers and local non-profits.
There is enough for everyone if we make the effort to find, prepare and serve it.
We envision communities forged through relationships based on mutual aid and cooperation. We use donations and the distribution of free items as a catalyst for change and to demonstrate what can be done when communities work together.
What started as a few sack lunches under the umbrella of the non profit Lov Movement has grown into a weekly hot lunch service that provides between 100 and 150 hot meals per week on a small budget of $100. Chef Cari Golden has been serving up hot, delicious meals to the unhoused population of Skid Row in Los Angeles since October of 2020.
